Here’s What to Bring for your Antarctica Expedition
Fortunately, you won’t need to pack as much as you think you will for your Antarctica expedition! You wear the same things over and over again, and there is a laundry service on board. I also packed many quick dry clothes so I could wash them in the sink – there’s a wind up clothes line in your shower. Note that these are Amazon affiliate links and I will – at no additional cost to you – earn a small commission on anything you buy – Thanks! Kit
Here’s What to Pack:
A Quick Dry Long Sleeved Top
Great travel top, ‘City Touring’ top and comfy around ship top. Pack 3.
Fleece Jacket
A fleece or puffy jacket. I prefer fleece as it is ‘dressier’ for wearing indoors on board.
Smart Wool Base Layers
For landings and other outdoor activities to keep you warm. Pack 2 if you sweat a lot.
Wool Toe Liner Socks
The muck boots won’t be as comfortable as hiking boots, so I used layers. Pack 2 pair.
Compression Socks
Great for the long plane ride AND to prevent chaffing from the top of your muck boots.
Exercise Shorts
Something to work out in.
Other Things to Pack:
Your undergarments, toiletries and medicines and polarized sunglasses plus holder. Get access to all of my Packing Lists and Travel Planners HERE.
What You DON’T Need to Pack:
Hurtigruten will provide you with a waterproof jacket (that you can keep). In your room will be slippers and a bathrobe to use to/from the sauna and hot tub. They also provide your muck boots, so just pack a pair or two of shoes that you travel in and walk around the ship in – casual and no real heels in case the seas are a bit rough.
Everything and everyone is pretty casual on board, and we all just wore the same stuff over and over again. On our last evening, some put on a dressier top, but most of us didn’t pack anything overly dressy. Consider bringing a pretty scarf to dress up your top.
